It is, she is, almost the norm now, and you can almost take it, and her, for granted, but we shouldn’t. She’s not alone in her field now, but Rachael Blackmore is a sporting phenomenon, still. Her list of achievements is staggering, and she is tougher than any pair of old boots.

When does plotting a horse stop being ‘shrewd’ and turn into ‘bent’? The former is celebrated and the latter is crooked apparently.

Just seems bizarre that certain trainers are labelled as brilliant for plotting horses but today doing that was wrong?! Where’s the line?

What a very intelligent horse Langer Dan is knows exactly where his is and what to do

It’s worth remembering that for all the current malaise in jump racing, none of this is Willie Mullins’ fault. His supremacy and predominance has been hard earned over many years, since winning his first Festival victory with Tourist Attraction in 1995. Much deserved success.

There is only one Ruby Walsh but Paul Townend has been some replacement, the way he operates in the saddle. Never a moment’s worry on these really short ones. So good on all three winners today.

It’s obviously no surprise for clear reasons:

1. Racing simply isn’t that popular in an increasingly urban society these days.

2. Competition creates excitement: but the sport itself isn’t as competitive as it used to be.

3. It’s a seriously expensive day out.

Paul Townend as cool as it gets, no panic at all with the loose horse bothering him or when Plan A of sneaking to the inner of that one didn’t come off… Galopin Des Champs is just an exceptional chaser- travels, stays, jumps, the full package.

Tom Livermore@tomsbfc

Galopin Des Champs is a proper champion. The best for a good few years.
