Champions Race jockey cam is tip-top

THE Pat Smullen Champions Race for Cancer Trials proved one of the best spectacles of the flat racing season. This week we saw the camera footage from the jockeys’ helmet cams – with sound and 360 degree angles through the race. It looked fantastic, and captured the thrill of riding in a race, right in amongst horses. Forget the drone footage, it’s too far away or a jockey-cam facing forward, this is the best we’ve seen for living the feeling of being a jockey. There are probably health and safety issues in using it over obstacles but, if some way around that could be found, it would make a terrific addition to racing coverage. Think how it would look coming to the last in a Grade 1 at Cheltenham.
