Charity race

The Pat Smullen Charity Race Day in aid of Cancer Trials Ireland returns once more today to the Curragh and Pat Smullen’s daughter, Hannah, former amateur jockey Kate Harrington and Olympian Sue Shortt are among the 15 riders taking part and who are all raising funds individually for Cancer Trials Ireland.

Each jockey is riding over the famous Irish Derby course of 12 furlongs, in memory of a family member or friend who they lost to cancer, or to support anyone currently living with cancer.

The final 15 riders are: Saffron Oliver, Fergus Lawlor, Anne Widger, Hannah Smullen, Kate Harrington, Betty Turner, Alan McParland, Joey Ryan, Katy Gordon Quayle, Sue Shortt, Sinead Smullen, Nicole Weir, Gillian Cody, Ber Fahey, Grainne O’Neill.

Gates open 11:30am today, with live music in Champions Hall from 5pm to 6:30pm.
