STALLIONS 2017: In the breeding barn
on 31 March 2017
Cheryl Broderick of Ballypatrick and Andrea Etter of Belmont House Stud tell Emer Bermingham of their mare mating plans this season

BALLYPATRICK STUD

Cheryl Broderick from Ballypatrick Stud, Co Tipperary, told us that they breed from an average of 30 mares and as they do quite a lot of embryo transfers, they have multiple foals from mares over the course of the season. This allows their top mares to remain in competition with Greg Broderick.

Multiple Grand Prix winner Mrs Quinn (Laughtons Flight x Sky Boy): in foal this year to Je T’aime Flamenco for the second year.

Ballypatrick Flight (Laughtons Flights x Cavalier Royale): this mare was a six-year-old National Champion and jumped to Grand Prix level with Greg and is a half-sister to MHS Going Global. She is the dam of the foal sale-toppers at the 2105 Irish Breeders Classic (€22,000) and Bolesworth Sale England (€38,000): We took multiple embryos from her this year by Cornet Obolensky, Con Air and Emerald.

Exclusive Van Meyershoeve is a mare by Emerald x Clinton: She is a young promising mare. We took two embryos from her by Cornet Obolensky and Casall.

Maja (Ragazzo x Argentinus): jumped to 1.50m level. We took two embryos from her by Diamant De Semilly and Tyson.

Goodwins Loyalty (OBOS Quality x Candle King): she jumped to 1.55m with Kevin Babington. We took two embryos from her by Stakato Gold and Comme il Faut.

Ballypatrick’s Eve (Cruising x Ginger Holly): we took five embryos from her by Con Air, Conthargos, Vigo, Diamant de Semilly and Plot Blue.

Mariebel Van D,abdijhoeve (Casper x Cabrio Van De Heffinick): From the family of Hector Van d’Abdijhoeve, campaigned by Bertram Allen. She is in foal to Califax.

BP Guidy (Guidam Junior x Codex): a half-sister to Super Chilled, former six-year-old winner at the Dublin Horse Show and now jumping Internationally with Kevin Babington. She is in foal to Stakato Gold.

Babel (Diamant De Semilly x Dollar Du Murier): she is currently jumping with Greg so we took embryos from her by Cornet Obolensky, Stakato Gold and Con Air.

Diamond Jubilee (Clover Brigade x Irco Mena): This mare is from the family of Nations Cup Horses Mullaghdrin Gold Rain, Touchable and Mullaghdrin Touch The Stars. Has an embryo x Emerald and is in foal to Je T’aime Flamenco.

BP Athena (Indocto x Heritage Fortunas): her dam is Ballypatrick Mystique who was a five-year-old and seven-year Old National Champion and won a bronze medal in Lanaken at the seven-year-old World Breeding Championship in Lanaken. She is in foal to Plot Blue.
