ATTENTION on Sunday turned to young riders at Cavan Equestrian Centre when they had their final chance to qualify for next month’s Dublin Horse Show.

Leinster riders dominated the 1.35m-1.40m young rider division when claiming three of the top six placings. Taking the win on this occasion was Marta Hughes Bravo and HHS Figero when she was fastest of the double clears in 42.98.

Fellow Kilkenny rider Timmy Brennan and GCS Ita also lodged a double clear, albeit in a slower time of 45.50 for second. Mayo-based rider Maria Schou was almost two seconds slower in 47.38 for third.

Paddy Reape proved fastest of the four-faulters with Creevagh Special in 40.82 for fourth, ahead of Kilkenny’s Eoin Brennan and Limestone Briarhill Lui who also had one on the floor in 42.19. Molly Hughes Bravo also had a fence down with HHS Vancouver in a 43.02 for sixth place.

1.25m-1.30m

The 1.25m-1.30m attracted the biggest entry with 107 combinations going to post. Claiming victory after delivering the fastest of the triple clears in 33.41 was Captain Marko. McMunn was chased home by Aine Shorthall and Killerisk Can Ya, who kept the poles in their cups in 33.69.

A clear from Isabel O’Brien and Highcross Violet in 33.77 saw them take third, ahead of Tatianna Ormiston and Killorane Lucky Charm, clear in 34.58. Almost a second behind and slotting into fifth place was Max Foley and Hermes De Cavalier (35.64), while in sixth place was Leah Stack and Fubalia (36.07).

1.10m-1.15m

There were similar big numbers in the 1.10m-1.15m division with 105 combinations going to post. Taking the win was Zara Finlay and Castlebridge Logan when they lodged a triple clear in 41.03. The runner-up spot belonged to Matilda Walsh and Millie MF when they came home clear in 42.71.

Little separated the next placing as Billy Sinnott and Macgyver crossed the line with nothing to add in 43.36, while in fourth was Isabelle Duffy and Dragonheart Z, clear in 43.46. Accounting for fifth place was Naomi Carr and Blakeneys Star (44.62), while in sixth was Katie Nallon and Toberpatrick HL Todd when they had one on the ground in 39.71.
