IRELAND’S Denis Lynch snatched the Golden Whip trophy with a Grand Prix victory at Norten-Hardenberg in Germany this afternoon (Sunday), collecting the €15,000 winner’s prize.
Piloting Thomas Straumann’s 15 year-old gelding Abbervail Van Het Dingeshof, the Tipperary rider outpaced Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli and the 11-year-old Zerlin M by just under a second in the hotly-contested six horse jump-off.
Ireland was also well represented in Saturday night’s three-star Norten-Hardenberg championship class, with Co Down’s Dermott Lennon and the Irish Sport Horse Loughview Lou Lou claiming third place, and Mayo’s Cameron Hanley and Z Acodate Ddl taking fifth.
Lennon also had a win on Wibowee in the German speed class on Saturday, while Meath’s Cian O’Connor took a second place in the Gothaer Trophy on the same day, with Quidam's Cherie.
In Busto Arsizio in Italy, Niall Talbot claimed a fifth place in the three-star Grand Prix with Nicos de la Cense today, following a second place in the 1m45 class yesterday.
In the Drammen Derby in Norway, Ireland claimed three top five places, with Michael G. Duffy and Wilton John VDL in second, his brother Alex Duffy aboard Wrangler II in fourth, and Thomas Ryan with Cruise On Clover (ISH) in fifth.
At the four-star show at Linz in Austria, Ireland’s Jonathan Gordon took a third place with Emma Brown in the two-phase class on Saturday.
