EVEN the busiest of vets need a day off and what better reason than the recent wedding of Emer McManus and John McCabe.

Emer is now based at Glenina Veterinary Clinic and Rockmount Equine Clinic, where she works alongside her father, Philip, in the mixed animal practice with a strong equine focus.

Husband John, a Cavan man like his father-in-law, is a Teagasc dairy advisor with an interest in bovine genetics and a large proportion of the wedding crowd was made up of vets and dairy farmers.

Although John didn’t know anything about horses until his move to Galway, he has since had half a dozen lessons from Joseph O’Brien in Galway Equestrian Centre.

Philip drove his daughter to Claregalway Church in a vintage four-litre Jaguar, owned by Emer’s friend Sarah Boland of Highfield Veterinary, and the reception afterwards was held at the Connemara Coast Hotel.

With a ‘best timekeeper’ reputation among her clients of being there when she says she will be, Emer had Philip ready to go and was at the chapel on time, even ahead of some of the guests!

Irish Horse World wishes the happy couple every happiness and just wonders if Philip will continue to drive the Jaguar on his rounds?
