MEMORIES and history were made for the Level 3 CAFRE apprenticeship students, who successfully completed the British Horse Society Stage 3 exam recently in what is the first year of the Level 3 Equine Apprenticeship course at the Enniskillen Campus.

The students work in the equine industry and attend Enniskillen Campus for block training periodically throughout the year. They also complete theory classes each week online through Microsoft Teams. The students have embraced this and have gained valuable skills, knowledge and experience in the process.

The Level 3 Apprenticeship students are currently working in a range of yards, including International Event, Riding for the Disabled and Show jumping yards.

Ralph Robinson, one of the Level 3 Apprentices, who works for Joseph Murphy Eventing, enjoyed the apprenticeship. Ralph said: “I really enjoyed coming to CAFRE and meeting the different students, who are also working in the industry. CAFRE gave us a super learning environment. We used to meet each week online and then attend CAFRE in person once a month. I really have enjoyed the Level 3 Apprenticeship and now will continue to work for Joseph and study for British Horse Society Teaching exams.”

CAFRE is currently offering young people an opportunity to ‘earn as you learn’. Jenny Richardson, Equine Lecturer on the programme, said: “The Northern Ireland Apprenticeship programme is an excellent way to gain British Horse Society qualifications, while continuing to earn and develop practical skills in the workplace.”

If you are interested in gaining a qualification through the Level 2 or Level 3 Apprenticeship scheme, please contact Jenny Richardson on +44 28 6634 4853, or alternatively email: jenny.richardson@daera-ni.gov.uk. Applications are now open for September 2024.
