IT is a moot point as to whether the Matheson Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday shed much light on the Champion Hurdle picture. It certainly did the claims of Klassical Dream, odds-on for this but last of five after playing up at the start and sprawling on landing at halfway, no good whatsoever.

With him by the wayside, Sharjah followed up his win of 12 months before convincingly, but I am struggling to get a figure on him any higher than 162. That being so, Petit Mouchoir comes out at 157, which results in the clipping of a few points off Saldier (159), the horse who beat him in the Morgiana Hurdle. Klassical Dream, who was third in the Morgiana, is now on 156 with much to prove.
