THE older-horse group races on the flat in Britain in the period under review failed to produce any fireworks in terms of timefigures.

Forest Ranger ran only a 99 when winning the Earl of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket from a horse, in Deauville, who shaped as if this outing may put him spot on. The modest time is not especially attributable to the run of the race as Forest Ranger’s last three furlongs of 37.40s is only just quicker than par at 100.1% finishing speed. This does not look strong form.
