THERE is no pleasing some people. We are lucky to have two outstanding mares still in training, in Enable and Magical, but one consequence is that some of the races they contest will be more one-sided than they might have been otherwise.

Enable achieved the not-inconsiderable feat of winning her third King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Saturday, but from just two rivals (after Anthony Van Dyck was a late scratch) and at odds of 4/9. Twenty-four hours later, Magical won her second Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, from five rivals (two from her own stable) and at 2/9.
