RIDERS had an early morning call on Saturday for the 1.30m Dunlop Homes-sponsored final at the Cavan Indoor Championships, with 23 combinations battling it out. From a startlist of 23, just three combinations were clear in the first round.

Young riders once again demonstrated their talent as Tatianna Ormiston led the victory lap with Killorane Lucky Charm when she finished on four faults in a time of 35.97. Owned by Gene Ormiston, the 10-year-old gelding is by Kerry Stone out of Killorane Rebel. The combination were clearly on form as they also claimed the 1.30m two-phase on the Wednesday of the show.

Fellow young rider Nadine Carey took the runner-up spot when she had two down in a time of 36.12 aboard Sacre Bleu. Third place belonged to Deirdre Doyle and her seven-year-old Kancruise when they finished on 15 faults in a time of 58.91.

Darryl Walker and Fortnight failed to proceed to the jump-off when they incurred a single time fault, clocking 76.43 for eventual fourth. Young rider Maria Schou also finished on a time fault (76.51) in the first round with the Sandra Duffy-owned eight-year-old Satelittenflieger K for fifth place.

Fastest of the four faulters in the first round and claiming sixth place was Tyrone Flanagan and Trebra Indoctro Cruise.

1.25m Table A Speed

The €1,200 1.25m Table A speed attracted a big following with 92 combinations going to post.

Claiming this victory was Cian Harrison and Florida Springs when he came home clear in 49.17. Owned by Rachel Harrison and bred by Patrick Smith, the nine-year-old mare is by Mermus R and out of the Kings Master-sired Rockville Star.

Drawn early in the draw, Denise Hopkins put in a very fast clear round with the seven-year-old MDSandyhill Princess Mia, stopping the clock in 49.89 for second place.

Barry Griffin was fractions behind with his own SBH Diamond In the Rough, coming home clear in 50.03 for third place. Tatianna Ormiston was back in the money, claiming fourth place with IDS, delivering a clear in 51.36 for eventual fourth.

Early to go in the class, Pataire Crawford and Jackstar put it up to the rest as they lodged a clear in 52.05, which would later prove good enough for fifth place. Just over a second behind and slotting into sixth place was Paul McDermott who was riding the Seamus Madden-owned seven-year-old Quiline VD Bisschop, clear in 53.03.
