“A week later I nearly killed myself in a crash. James left the horse in the field for a year, he waited for me to get going again, to be honest there was no one else that did that; it was a horrible time. He left him to me.

"He is as good an owner as you can get; he is a great fella and great friend of mine.”

Jane Davis, head of equine marketing at Connolly’s Red Mills, commented: “It was another incredible season. It’s been a really exciting league to follow; it is testament to how well it is supported year in, year out.

“I am delighted for Liam, that is his second win on the bounce and well deserved after the turbulent time he has getting over his accident and his injuries. Today’s final was super, that was a very strong track and it was very enjoyable to watch.”
