WEXFORD Equestrian played host to the second round of the Mervue Equine Leinster Summer Tour with close to 150 combinations battling it out over the three divisions.

Sponsored by Irish Pebble on the day, the 1.35m saw 29 combinations go to post in the €2,000 class. After a 10-way jump-off, it was Kilkenny’s Eddie Moloney who came out on top when he delivered a double clear with Damma Kannan Supreme in a time of 39.87. Owned and bred by Niall Greene, the nine-year-old gelding is by Kannan out of the Camiro De Haar Z mare Tonagh Trip The Lights.

Junior rider Alexandra Hourigan took the runner-up place with Fernanda 22 (Flipper D’Elle x What Else) when they came home with nothing to add in a time of 40.37. Resident Wexford EC rider Taylor Peare featured in the line-up, taking third place with Lissyegan Geoffrey when they came home with a clean sheet in a time of 40.39. Owned by Pat Peare and bred by Geoffrey Hall, the 13-year-old gelding is by Hermes De Reve out of the Captain Clover-sired Woodbank Shiraz.

Slotting into fourth place was Taylor Cummins and the Mark Williams-owned CSF Gabby Abbey, when they kept all the poles in place in a time of 42.66. Bred by Shane Connelly, the 10-year-old mare is by Kannan out of Friedas Ramona.

Francis Connors was last of the double clears with Claire McDonnell’s home-bred eight-year-old mare Rose Marie in a time of 46.10 for fifth place. By Diamant De Semilly, Rose Marie is out of the great five-star winning mare Mo Chroi (Cruising).

Completing the top six was Emma O’Dwyer with her own Bear Bay Alessandro (First Fighter x Pyrrhus), when they were fastest of the four-faulters in a time of 41.28.

1.20m

The 1.20m division attracted the largest following with 63 combinations going to post in the Garryrichard Stud-sponsored class. Local rider Patrick Hickey of Garryrichard Stud led this victory lap when he delivered the winning round with his brother William Hickey’s foreign-bred seven-year-old Claudine Fly in a time of 34.73.

Eddie Moloney was back in the ribbons as he took the runner-up spot with the Equinimity LLC-owned Belgian six-year-old Rosemund, when clear in 35.56. Jackilynn Breslin followed closely behind with her own Calle Cool (Orestus x Quantum) and crossed the line in a time of 36.13 for third place.

Francis Connors also remained within the 37-second mark with the Niall T Carey-owned BD Alexandra (Ublesco x Corrado I), delivering a clear in 36.38 for fourth place. Madelaine Gervais (Ifra Van De Eik) finished fifth ahead of Taylor Cummins (CSF Gabby Abbey) in sixth.

1.10m

Winner of the Garryrichard Stud-sponsored 1.10m was young rider Jess Widger and her own seven-year-old Grantstown Spirit (Sprit House x Coevers Diamond Boy), who was bred by Caroline Widger. They galloped home in a time of 37.38. Patrick Hickey finished second with the seven-year-old Claudine Fly in 38.07.

Third place belonged to amateur rider Marie Hartley and Nikita Van Het Heidenhof, when they came home with nothing to add in a time of 38.81. Paul Sarsfield opted on the side of caution with his own six-year-old Drumgoole Lass, crossing the line clear in 40.63. Slotting into fifth place was junior rider Anna Morrissey (Royale Mardi Gras), ahead of Marie Harley (Rockstar Rory) in sixth.
