IT was a busy week for riders following the Mervue Equine Leinster Summer Tour with CoilÓg Equestrian playing host to the fifth round last Thursday and Ballyfoyle hosting on Sunday.

Taking the win in the 1.35m division at the Kildare venue was Kilkenny’s Eddie Moloney aboard the Niall Greene-owned and bred Damma Kannan Supreme (Kannan x Camiro De Haar Z), when double clear in 40.66 seconds.

Claiming the runner-up place was Patrick Hickey and the eight-year-old Karmalensky when clear in 41.64. Joyce Veld took third place with Corrahoe Bounce when they also maintained a clean sheet in 44.19. Fastest of the four-faulters and slotting into fourth place was Chic of Aranka, in a time of 40.73, ahead of Darryl Walker and Cushions who also had one down in a time of 42.56. Walker was chased home by Shane Moloney and the seven-year-old RFL Cornet on four faults in 42.78.

Darryl Walker took the win in the 1.20m division. Riding Marek Starzak’s My Greenfort Princess (Ricardo Z x Kigali), he lodged the winning clear round in 26.84. Junior rider Shauna Curtis and Knockbrack Diamond Lady (Cavalier Cruise x Glidawn Diamond) delivered a clear in 28.89 for second, ahead of fellow junior rider, Emily Moloney and Capitol Cruis who was also clear in a time of 29.97 seconds.

Brendan Murphy and the six-year-old Roger De Mariposa crossed the line with nothing to add in 31.75, while in fifth was Sebastian Curran and RBS Miss Imperial (32.49). Completing the top six was Ciaran Moran and Greenhall Mullord (6YO), clear in 32.60.

Kilkenny’s Brona Keane led the victory lap in the 1.10m, when she partnered Aileen O’Connor’s Quality Diamond to a clear in 29.50.

Ballyfoyle Agriculture Show

On Sunday the series travelled to Co Kilkenny and Ballyfoyle Agriculture Show. Leading the victory lap in the 1.35m section was Dylan Savage with Castlefield Breeding Farm’s seven-year-old Mister Qerly Z (Mosito VH Hellehof x For Pleasure).

In a four-horse jump-off, they picked up four faults in a time of 54.26 to win. Winners of the round in Ballivor, Mark Cleary and the Michael Hayden-owned eight-year-old Primo Aliboo Blue ABF (Chacco-Blue x Roc USA), slotted into second when they finished on eight faults in a time of 52.34.

Aoife Dooley also had two on the ground with Marguerite Ryan’s Cavalier Teaca, but in the slower time of 59.84 for third.

Cleary returned to take fourth place with the eight-year-old CBI Kylemores Cornet when he finished on his first round score of clear in 112.93.

Winner of the 1.20m section was Barry Griffin when he crossed the line with nothing to add with his own SBH Diamond In The Rough, in a time of 50.50. Bred by John Kearney, the nine-year-old mare is by Diamond Roller out of Zalsa.

A real contender in this league, amateur rider Marie Hartley [AA] added more points to the board when she took second place with Scarthill Vendi, clear in 51.70. Vickie Anderson and Zach answered all the questions in 52.75 for third.

The 1.10m attracted the largest entry with 44 going to post for the prize fund of €1,200 and the J Hogan Trophy. The win stayed local as Ger O’Neill partnered the KM Sport Horses-owned five-year-old Ballinaguilkey Special Star to a clear in 47.22. Bred by John and Barbara Walsh, the gelding is by Big Star out of Cavallier Mill (Ramiro B).
