Diamond shines bright for Floody

THE 1.35m Cavan Grand Prix offered a prize fund of €2,000 as Saturday’s highlight class. John Floody partnered Denyse Hughes’ Ballyknock Diamond to the top spot in a second-round time of 37.86 seconds.

Of the 51 starters 17 managed to produce a double clear round over the two phases. Sam El Dahan and the eight-year-old home-bred WKD Toronto, a gelding by Tornesch out of Zanoubia (by Carnival Drum) finished as runners-up in 38.57.

Korena Byrne’s Small Change, a 10-year-old gelding by Pacino out of Miss Josie Jump, by Poltarf, was ridden into third place by Richard Kerins after they lodged a second round time of 39.65.

HHS Fondue by Heritage Fortunus out of Cheryl CH, by Chameur and young rider Isabel Fitzpatrick took fourth in 40.40.

Fifth went to Tom Jones’ stallion Carrick Kilderry’s Diamond (Carrick Diamond Lad - Cruising) partnered by Emily Corbett.

Floody finished in sixth aboard his other mount, Kathryn Magennis’ nine-year-old gelding Accidental Diamond (Diamond Roller - High Roller).
