JIM Derwin’s Deep Pockets, ridden by Francis Derwin Jnr, had a convincing win in the 1.40m Gain Equine Nutrition/Alltech National Grand Prix, sponsored by Sam Dennigan and Co, on Saturday afternoon at Tattersalls July Show. By OBOS Quality, the 13-year-old gelding is out of the Cruising mare Simply Chic.

Derwin, who alongside Premier Grand Prix winner Niamh McEvoy, was a member of the bronze medal-winning Junior European team in Spain a few weeks earlier on AHG Whiterock Cruise Down, once again showed his skill against the clock breaking the beam in 37.13, almost a second ahead of his closest rival.

Noletta Smyth and Roy Craig’s Mulvin Lights Out (Kroongraaf x Diamond Serpent), partnered by Jonathan Smyth, were runners-up in 38.34.

Third place went to Leo Carey’s Numero Uno with Daren Hopkins aboard in 39.13.

Derryinver Truffle (Tornesch x Cruising) and Luke Campbell slotted into fourth place, while Inlaws Orincco and Aidan Kileen were fifth.

Sixth place went to the Dutch-bred Gentleman Time (Quality Time x Cento) and Orla Quelly.
