ELLA Clancy and Shooting Star added a 1.35m win in Cavan last Sunday to their already impressive record this year. The 19-year-old recently returned from competing in Oliva, Spain where she earned several 1.40m top-10 finishes.

Shooting Star (Voss x Indoctro) is a 10-year-old gelding, bred in the UK by John Whitaker, and he began his career under Whitaker’s nephew George before being sold to Clancy in summer 2020.

Clancy guided Shooting Star to a second round clear in a time of 40.50 to capture the victory in the 42-rider-strong two phase competition, which offered a €2,000 prize fund and also served as a qualifier for the Balmoral show (May 11th-14th).

Former Irish chef d’equipe Robert Splaine was runner-up riding another 10-year-old gelding, TLK Equine Ventures LLC Mike Kovanda’s Cambridge (Cloney x Stakkato). They stopped the clock at 41.47.

Resident Cavan rider Victoria Clarke was third aboard her own and Ronnoco Jump Ltd’s eight-year-old Major Royale (O.B.O.S. Quality 004 x Cavalier Royale) in 43.97, while Angela Waras and Gillian Kerr’s Lucidam (Luidam x Olympic Lux) were fourth in 44.38.

Junior rider Niamh McEvoy and the eight-year-old Lisboy Louie, a gelding by Luidam out of the Thoroughbred mare Sinn Time, took fifth and young rider Ellie Humphries completed the line-up in sixth riding CV Santander (Womanizer x Coevers Diamond Boy).
