Seven and eight-year-old Consolation Championship

SOME 41 combinations lined out last Saturday to contest the €2,000 seven and eight-year-oldconsolation class at the Irish Breeders’ Classic. Kilkenny young riders struck again as Robin Carey took the win aboard Adam Carey’s Luicruz, clear in 31.39 seconds.

This seven-year-old mare was bred by Sean Fahey and is by Luidam out of the Puissance-sired All Cruz. This combination has been in the winnings lately, taking second in the 1.20m Mervue Equine Leinster tour in the final at Warrington.

Robyn Moran was just over a second slower with the Fortside Farms-owned Fortside Clever Candy in 39.88 for second place. She also took third with Vera Griffin’s Cushlas Fryday when they came home clear in 33.70.

The next three placings were filled by Kilkenny riders and best of those was Tholm Keane who delivered a clear with the Maeve Al Aidarous-owned Fur Elise (7yo) in 34.97 for fourth place. Also representing Kilkenny in the line-up was Oisin Aylward with Neil Campion’s Cillbhrid Hank (7yo), taking fifth and clear in 36.37. Completing the top-six line-up was Philip Carey with Perle D’ Amour (7yo), fastest of the four-faulters in 34.72.
