HIGHLIGHTED by a selection of graded jumpers and well related three-year-olds, the catalogue for next week’s one-day fixture at Cavan looks to be a strong one.

Offering 145 lots, the older horse group looks particularly attractive and, competition horse aside, there are a number of potential hunters and show horses.

Among the three-year-olds are relations to many international horses from both the eventing and show jumping disciplines. The opening pony sector also looks appealing, and while the four-year-olds are not so plentiful there are a number of likely individuals on offer.

As has become the norm this season, Padraig Howley’s Sligo Candy Boy dominates the numerical list of stallions, and with 12 lots on offer he stands a distance in front of the traditionally bred Carrick Diamond Lad who has three.

Ponies

Lot 3 SNS Classic, reg 5 yo br m 127cms. The first of the 26 ponies on offer, this diminutive and straightforward performer has carried an eight-year-old boy to win 13 SJI points.

Lot 4 Hendricks, reg 6 yo dn g 138cms by Roberts Pride out of Good As Gold (Tasty Pride). One of several of the native breed catalogued, this pony began his competitive career in May last year. Since then, he has clocked up 125 SJI points, and progressed to win both the autumn and spring 1m league finals in the Duffy’s Equestrian Centre. He also headed the spring final in Glenamaddy earlier this season, and the summer equivalent in Mullingar. An exciting pony for the future.

Lot 23 Erins Eye, reg 4 yo gr f 148cms by Festy The Chief out of Ech Na Sleibhe (Fridericksminde Hazy Move On). Another Connemara, this young filly was hunted at the end of last season by a nine-year-old girl. Described as ‘exceptionally easy, and almost push button’, she attended pony club camp, is jumping a 80cms track with ease, and loves her cross-country. Ideal as a family pony, she is thought suitable for any level of rider.

Lot 26 Adajeo, reg 13 yo b g 14.2hh by Westside Mirah out of Jowahara (Sean Dei). An experienced individual, Adajeo was the Leinster region U13 champion in the Butterfly League, as well as the winner of this year’s 80cms winter league at Killossery Lodge. A pony with extensive mileage in a variety of disciplines, he also events, has competed in the show ring, dressage classes and hunter trials. A good mover, and never spooky, he is easy to do in every way.

Competition Horses

Having jumped successfully to 1.20m and clocking up 149 SJI points, this mare was placed in the six-year-old final of the youngster tour last year, and won her class at the finals in Clare Equestrian this year.
