It was a spirited day of bidding in the Charity Auction of Stallion Nominations hosted by Tattersalls Online where in excess of £370,000 was raised in aid of Giving to Ukraine and the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.

At the close of bidding on Tuesday afternoon a little over £250,000 had been raised but the action continued well into the evening and this morning seeing a further £120,000 realised in sales of multiple nominations that had been donated.

The top lot of the day was a nomination to Whitsbury Manor Stud’s multiple Group 1 producing stallion Showcasing which was purchased for £35,000 by Turquoise Bloodstock on behalf of a Turkish client.

Following the sale Kayhan Ozcan of Turquoise Bloodstock expressed many thanks on behalf of himself and his client to all who participated in the sale and raised much needed funds for those affected by the recent earthquakes.

The second highest priced lot in the sale was a nomination to Tally-Ho Stud’s leading sire Kodiac which was secured by La Australiana Partnership for £30,000.

Kodiac's growing reputation as a sire of sires was borne out by the sale of nominations to five of his sons including Kessaar, Kodi Bear and Nando Parrado.

Eddie O’Leary of Lynn Lodge Stud secured the nomination to Kodi Bear as well as nominations to exciting young sires Time Test and Magna Grecia and passed on his praise for the donors to the sale in raising a significant amount of money for these deserving causes.

There was widespread interest in the sale and strong support received from breeders across Europe. Whilst many buyers purchased anonymously, over 180 registered bidders were active in the sale across the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Italy and Germany.

Several nominations remain available to be purchased and interested parties are encouraged to contact Oliver St Lawrence or Tattersalls regarding further opportunities to support the charities.

Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said: "The Online Charity Auction of Stallion Nominations has been a huge success and all credit must go to Stephen Byrne and Oliver St Lawrence whose initiative and enthusiasm resulted in almost 100 nominations being donated.

"The stallion farms have been enormously generous in their support of the sale and the bloodstock community has responded in equally open-handed fashion.

"Our thanks go to all who have contributed their time and effort which has resulted in the significant amount of money raised for Giving To Ukraine and the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.”
