THE first of over 4,000 yearlings in the Keeneland September Sale will enter the sales ring on Monday.

Often hailed as the best barometer of the global bloodstock market, the September Sale caters for all levels. Last year’s top lot fetched $2.5 million and the lowest priced paid during the two-week sale was $7,000.

The 2022 September Sale produced a record aggregate of more than $405 million, far outpacing the previous year’s total of $352.8 million. The average of $141,097 and the median price of $70,000 also were the highest in the sale’s history.

A total of 30 yearlings sold for $1 million or more, which was the most since 2007.

This year’s sale format remains unchanged. Books 1 and 2 during the sale’s first four days contain more than 1,000 yearlings judged to be the sale’s finest individuals based on pedigree and conformation.

Next Friday (September 15th) is a dark day, then Book 3 starts on Saturday. The selling continues every day until Book 6 draws to a close on Saturday, September 23rd.
