SOME 15 horses sold for six-figure sums at Doncaster on Wednesday during the opening session of the Goffs UK Spring Horses In Training and Point-to-Pointers Sale.

That was a record for a session in this sale, as was the day's total turnover of just over £6 million.

With another huge crowd in attendance, Wednesday's trade was topped by Monbeg Stables’ last start winning pointer Roadlesstravelled, who was knocked down to Stroud Coleman Bloodstock and trainer Jonjo O'Neill for £215,000.

A four-year-old gelding by Lauro, Roadlesstravelled won at Taylorstown on May 13th.

Unusually, a British-trained pointer fetched the day's second highest price. Trained by Cheltenham hero Bradley Gibbs, Saunton Surf is a four-year-old filly by Sea Moon and she won a point-to-point bumper at Aintree last Friday evening. She was bought by Highflyer Bloodstock for £175,000. This is a record price at public auction for a British-trained point-to-point filly.

Loughanmore Farms’ Ballymackie, the impressive winner of his last two points, who sold to Ashley Brooks for £160,000. Trained by Colin McKeever for Wilson Dennison, Ballymackie won at Punchestown in February and Loughanmore in April.

Three lots fetched £150,000. They were Sam Curling's Della Casa Lunga (bought by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock), Paurick O'Connor's Primoz (bought by Lucinda Russell and Paul McIvor), and Rose Dobbin's recent Kelso bumper winner St Cuthbert's Cave, who was knocked down to Gordon Elliott.

The second and final day of the sale, which will feature a dispersal of 25 lots from Dai Walters, starts at 10am on Thursday.
