ARQANA will stage its first thoroughbred sale of the year on Tuesday and Wednesday next when over 350 horses will be offered in the Deauville ring.

The catalogue features horses-in-training on the flat and over jumps, maidens, broodmares, stores, two-year-olds and yearlings.

Among the first of the horses-in-training due into the ring is Gabriel Leenders’ Marvin Flight. A winner on his debut over hurdles at Pau, the four-year-old son of Spider Light is out of a full-sister to Auteuil listed winner Magic Flight and descends from the family of Group 1 winners Golden Flight and Sunny Flight.

He will be accompanied by Corine Barande-Barbe’s Air De Valse, a winner of the Group 3 Prix du Petit Couvert. Placed in the Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp, she has a rating of 101.

This section will also host the dispersal of Écurie Zingaro. A total of nine horses in training with David Cottin will be offered including Princess City, a three-year-old filly by Prince Gibraltar and half-sister to group race winner Peace Garden and Auteuil listed-placed Priority, from the family of Triumph Hurdle winner Peace And Co.

Court order

The sale will also include a court-ordered lot of seven unraced pre-trained three-year-olds offered by Haras du Chêne and sold without reserve including a full-sister to Different League, who won the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and placed second in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes.

This draft also includes a brother by Lope De Vega to Grade 1 Haskell Stakes winner Coil and Hrade 1 Hollywood Derby winner Chiropractor, as well as a sister by Cracksman to Group 2 winner Baby Rider from the family of Group 1 winners Wings Of Eagles and Belle Et Celebre.

Breeding section

There are over 80 fillies out-of-training and more than 115 broodmares in this section.

The famous Wertheimer & Frère will present Parole, a daughter of the Japanese stallion Daiwa Major and a half-sister to the group race winner and Prix du Jockey Club and French 2000 Guineas placed Legend War (formerly named Dicton), from the family of Group 1 winners Pas De Reponse and Green Tune.

Four lots come from the Aga Khan Studs, including Zerziyna, a daughter of Fastnet Rock and a half-sister to listed winner Zeyrek. She is a granddaughter of Zarkava, dam of leading stallion Zarak.

Over jumps, of note is Flamme Rouge, a daughter of Masterstroke placed over hurdles at Auteuil and out of the listed placed Fidelity. A sister to three blacktype winners, including listed winners Red Name and Otchoa Rouge, she is from the family of Invicter, Presidente Line and the Gary Moore-trained Porticello.

Among the covering sires are Churchill, City Light, Expert Eye, Galiway, Kendargent, Mehmas, Magna Grecia, Persian King, The Grey Gatsby, Victor Ludorum, Wooded and Zarak, as well as Doctor Dino, Great Pretender, Karaktar, Masked Marvel, Moises Has and No Risk At All in the National Hunt sphere.

Haras de Bouquetot will offer 15 broodmares including the group-placed Bea Remembered, the dam of multiple group race winner and Group 1-placed Stormy Antarctic as well as group-placed Al Johrah. She is in foal to Wooded.

The same vendor offers Rasmiya, a half-sister by Galileo to group race winners Above Average and Sent From Heaven. Already dam of listed winner Jouza, she is in foal to Mehmas.

Other broodmares who stand out include Twelveoclock, a half-sister to classic winner Coeursamba, in foal to Zarak, and Utopie Des Bordes, a Grade 1 winner over fences at Auteuil and full-sister to graded race winner winner Victoire Des Bordes.

Unraced stock

Some 52 yearlings and 17 two-year-olds bred for flat and jumps racing will be offered for sale. The flat sires include Adlerflug, Almanzor, Bated Breath, City Light, Galiway, Kendargent, Persian King, Protectionist, The Grey Gatsby, Ten Sovereigns and Zarak. Over jumps, there is progeny by Beaumec De Houelle, Goliath Du Berlais, Moises Has and Masked Marvel.

Two that catch the eye are a son of Zarak out of Auteuil listed winner Hell’s Queen, from the family of graded race jumpers Hell Boy, Baan Rim Pa and Me Voici, and a son of Ten Sovereigns, out of a half-sister to listed winner Earl Of Leitrim, from the family of Group 1 winners Divine Proportions and Whipper.

Late entries

Three wild cards and 10 supplements were added to the sale.

On the horses-in-training side, Christophe Ferland will offer Leibovitz, Winner over six furlongs on her debut at Chantilly, the three-year-old daughter of Starspangledbanner hails from the family of Group 1 winners Park Appeal, Cape Cross, Diktat, Desirable, Shadayid and Alydaress.

Rouen Cathedral is a daughter of Le Havre out of group race winner Top Toss. She will be offered in foal to Sottsass.

Also by Le Havre is listed winner and Group 3 runner-up Prix de Psyché Sainte Amarante. She is from the family of Group 1 winners Belardo and Kistena.

One of the most interesting supplementary entries is Aldufoof, a sister by Bated Breath to Group 2 Prix Chaudenay winner Al Qareem.
