THE British sales year kicks off next Tuesday when the two-day Goffs UK January Sale begins in Doncaster.

Running to 300 lots, the catalogue includes 154 National Hunt yearlings (born 2021) and 53 National Hunt mares on day one. The second day is dedicated to horses in training and point-to-pointers.

A half-sister to the star hurdler Constitution Hill is the star lot. The daughter of Irish Derby winner Jack Hobbs is being consigned by Throckmorton Court Stud on behalf of breeder Sally Noot, whose story was featured in The Irish Field last week (page 20).

The National Hunt mare session has produced some outstanding graduates such as Stormy Ireland who sold in last year’s sale and went on to win the Grade 1 Irish Mares Champion Hurdle and was in winning form again at Cheltenham this month.

This year sees 53 entries and they include listed winner Fantastic Ms Fox and the listed placed Hitherjacques Lady, who is eligible for the TBA Elite NH Mares’ Scheme.

There are also three mares covered by Blue Bresil as well as mares in foal to Arrigo, Ask, Flag Of Honour, Frammassone, Gentlewave, Getaway, Jack Hobbs, Kamsin, Passing Glance, Pether’s Moon, Sogann and Telescope.

Day two sees the form horses take centre stage. Early entries include winning pointers Camilla’s Choice, The Tablet, Goodoldbill and Criquette.

The horses-in-training session will feature entries from trainers Alan King, Anthony Honeyball, Brian Meehan, Dan Skelton, David O’Meara, Donald McCain, Evan Williams, Gordon Elliott, Iain Jardine, Jonjo O’Neill, Joseph O’Brien, Keith Dalgleish, Michael Easterby, Micky Hammond, Nicky Henderson, Tom Ellis, Tom George and Willie Mullins.

An added bonus for those in attendance is the TBA NH Stallion Showcase which will see 18 sires on parade in Yard B on the Tuesday.

The stallions on show are Arrigo, Bangkok, Dartmouth, Dink, Diplomat, Dragon Dancer, Flag Of Honour, Frammassone, Frontiersman, Gentlewave, Jack Hobbs, Leading Light, Logician, Masterstroke, Pether’s Moon, Planteur, Telescope and Walzertakt.
