THERE are no fewer than 30 yearlings by Frankel in the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 catalogue, details of which were released on Monday. The three-day sale starts on Tuesday, October 7th and there are 537 lots catalogued, a major increase on the 449 listed last year.

The 2024 sale was an epic affair which saw 16 yearlings sell for seven-figure sums. It will be remembered for some titanic tussles between Amo Racing and Godolphin, with Amo splashing out 4.4 million guineas, 4.3 million guineas and 2.9 million guineas on just three of their 17 purchases. Amo Racing spent just under 20 million guineas at Book 1 last year, while Godolphin spent over 22 million guineas on 18 purchases.

This year’s catalogue includes 11 yearlings by Dubawi, 30 by Frankel, 27 by Kingman, 33 by Lope De Vega, 34 by Night Of Thunder, 27 by No Nay Never, 35 by Sea The Stars, and 30 by Wootton Bassett. The catalogue features own or half-brothers and sisters to a remarkable 50 classic and Group 1 winners and 264 group race or listed race winners.

The 30 yearlings catalogued by Frankel are led by the own-brother to the ‘Arc’ and six-time Group 1 winner Alpinista, as well as colts out of Group/ Grade 1 winners including the French 1000 Guineas winner Precieuse, dual Australian Group 1 winner Con Te Partiro and the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Glass Slippers, as well as a half-brother to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Aune Pearl.

Fillies by Frankel include the half-sisters to European champion sprinter Battaash and to four-time Group 1 winner Luxembourg, as well as daughters of Group 1 winners Sea La Rosa, Villa Marina and Wonderful Tonight.

Dubawi diamonds

Leading sire Dubawi has an exceptional collection of yearlings catalogued, led by half-sisters to the classic winners St Mark’s Basilica and Magna Grecia, and to the ‘Arc’ winner and European champion Waldgeist, as well as a daughter of beautifully-bred Group 1 winner God Given.

The total number of classic and Group/Grade 1 winning mares with progeny catalogued stands at 25 out of 153 Group/Listed winning dams represented in total. Among them are colts by No Nay Never out of Group 1 winners Millisle and Amazing Maria, colts out of Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner Queen’s Trust and Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Uni, by Baaeed and Sottsass respectively, and daughters of champion two-year-old fillies Shale and Skitter Scatter, as well as the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes winner Music Show.

The largest draft comes from the Castlebridge Consignment with 40 lots followed by last year’s leading consignor Newsells Park Stud who will offer 29 yearlings, including the Frankel own-brother to last year’s 4.4 million guineas sale-topping filly out of the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes winner Aljazzi.

Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said: “This year’s elite collection of yearlings is expected to attract a wide cast of international and domestic buyers, drawn not only by the exceptional quality on offer but also by the industry-leading £25,000 October Book 1 Bonus. Now in its 10th year, the Bonus is rapidly approaching the remarkable milestone of £10 million paid directly to owners in bonus prize money. Combined with the outstanding quality of the yearlings, it presents a compelling proposition for any potential purchaser.”
