THE dust is just starting to settle on the 2017/18 Irish National Hunt season but the drama and theatre offered up by last week’s Punchestown Festival were such that the last five days of the campaign are still being digested.

In particular, last weekend saw two of the sport’s most celebrated amateurs, Nina Carberry and Katie Walsh, call time on their careers. That they were able to bow out with a winner on Irish jump racing’s biggest stage was entirely fitting and both leave behind them an impressive legacy.
