Name: Emily Moloney

Age: 14

Parents: Eddie and Miriam Moloney

From: Warrington, Kilkenny

School: I am in second year in Loreto Secondary School, Kilkenny

Equestrian background: My Dad Eddie and his family come from a show jumping background. My Dad competes on the national circuit and also internationally. My uncle Richie is based in the USA and competes internationally. My Mother Miriam also competed on the amateur circuit before I was born. I am currently a member of Warrington Pony Club.

Trainers: My Dad Eddie is mainly my trainer along with Denis Flannelly

Current top horses/ponies: GVS Goodwins Queen is my top horse; she’s a 10-year-old mare by OBOS Quality. In 14.2hh ponies, I have Castlehill Titan, a 10-year-old gelding, and Ballyerk Dun and Dusted, a seven-year-old Connemara. I am also producing some very nice young 148s which I think will go on to compete at the top level. I have a very nice six-year-old mare, Jay Pleasure (For Pleasure) and I am sharing my Dad’s Temple Alice with him. He is a really nice horse whom I enjoy riding very much.

What height categories do you compete in? I recently competed in the Junior 1.40m Grand Prix in Sentower on GVS Goodwins Queen and Temple Alice in the 1.40m classes also. Castlehill Titan competes at the top level of the 148cms. I am competing Jay Pleasure in the aged horse classes.

Greatest influence in your career so far: My Dad started me off riding when I was very young, under one year old and I learned to ride in my grandparents, Tom and Anna Moloney’s riding school. I was so lucky to be able to compete in Wellington, Florida earlier this year thanks to my uncle Richie.

Major achievements and/or wins: I finished fourth with GVS Goodwins Queen on the COH Irish team at the European Championships in Villamoura, Portugal in 2021. I took the runner-up place in Hagen, again with GVS Goodwins Queen, on the COH Nations Cup team in June 2021. I finished third in the 148cm Dublin Horse Show National Championships on Castlehill Titan in August 2021. I finished third in the final of the Starfinder with Ballyerk Dun and Dusted in September 2021. I placed eighth with Jay Pleasure in the final of the five-year-old Autumn Development Series.

Plans for 2022: I plan to compete GVS Goodwins Queen and Temple Alice at Junior level and also qualify for the Dublin Horse Show. My aim is to be part of the 2022 European Pony squad with Castlehill Titan.
