150 YEARS of the greatest show – Dublin. It doesn’t even need its full title within the sport horse industry for people to understand. The Dublin Horse Show is an enormous part of the landscape of Irish sport and this is a special celebratory year at the iconic RDS site.

The Show serves as a global platform for Irish horses and riders, identifying future stars and, importantly, is a major markeplace where breeders, producers, athletes and riders meet and business is done across the board, contributing further to the Irish economy.

It’s the one week of the year show jumping appears on our national television screens, helping to increase the public interest in the sport which is needed more than ever.

100,000 people are expected to come through the gates of the RDS this week when the spin-off of the Show is worth an estimated €50 million to the local Dublin economy.

As has been well documented, there will be some changes this year now that the iconic Anglesea Stand is demolished and the €52 million regeneration of the grounds is underway.

Standing viewing of the main arena will be limited and the message from the RDS team has been to buy a seated ticket if there is a class you really want to see.

Preview

There is so much to read in our preview of the Show, with our expert writers previewing every class.

Showing producer Sadhbh O’Connor reveals how she prepares to take nine horses to Ballsbridge and recalls her first Dublin win 17 years ago when she was all but five years old while Siobhan English travelled to meet the Moloney family after Emily’s recent junior European gold medal win.

The Irish Field team also recorded a podcast last week with special guests Cathal Daniels, Sadhbh O’Connor, Susan Finnerty, Conrad Sweeney and Fiona Sheridan for more insights into the show.

Please visit us this week at The Irish Field stand, located just inside the doors of the RDS Main Hall where you can meet the team, browse our branded merchandise and avail of our show special subscription offer of €24.99 for three months. The team are bringing new digital initiatives next week too, including a live daily blog on www.theirishfield.ie. Make sure you tune in.

We are wishing everyone who makes the annual pilgrimage to Dublin the best of luck. Whether you’re an owner, breeder, athlete, trade stand exhibitor or a spectator, enjoy every moment of the most thrilling week of the year.
