THE 1992 Melbourne Cup winner Subzero died last week, aged 32, ending a period of unparalleled contribution to the general public.

Just the fifth grey to win the Cup, Subzero, once retired, was drafted into being a Clerk of the Course horse and teamed with horseman Graham Salisbury. Off the track as an unofficial equine ambassador, Subzero did more than all of Melbourne racings’ marketing departments combined to promote a genuine love of horses.
