TRUE Love proved she stayed a mile well when running out a worthy winner of the Betfred 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday.

Winner of Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket over five and six furlongs respectively last season, the daughter of No Nay Never reappeared last month at Leopardstown and won a Group 3 race over seven furlongs, carrying a penalty.

However, there were still doubts over her ability to stay the Guineas mile and it seemed significant that stable jockey Ryan Moore deserted her at Newmarket to ride stable companion Precise, who had proven stamina.

But, with Wayne Lordan back on board (he rode her to win the Cheveley Park), True Love (5/1) was always travelling well behind the leaders on the stands' side and could be called the most likely winner fully three furlongs out.

She quickened up to lead a furlong and a half out before staying on strongly to beat the front-running Evolutionist (16/1) by almost two lengths. The 33/1 shot Venetian Lace took third.

It was an eighth win in the race for Aidan O'Brien and a third for Wayne Lordan, following Winter in 2017 and Hermosa in 2019.

Bred by Coolmore, True Love is by No Nay Never out of Oaks third Alluringly (by Fastnet Rock). She is a half-sister to the Group 2 winner Truly Enchanting.
