Both Limerick and Fairyhouse rescheduled

THERE were two further changes to the fixture list this week. Limerick was unable to stage racing last Tuesday due to waterlogging and that meeting will now take place on Tuesday, February 10th. Fresh entries required by noon next Thursday.

Fairyhouse was due to stage a two-day meeting next week on Tuesday and Wednesday but now the Wednesday card has been moved to Monday, February 16th. Fresh entries for that meeting will close on Wednesday week, February 11th.

Doyle and McDonogh lose their winners

THE Referrals Committee disqualified two winners this week due to prohibited substances found in post-race samples.

Trainer Des McDonogh was fined €1,000 following a positive post-race test by In From The Night, winner of a handicap hurdle at Gowran Park on October 28th, 2024. The horse’s sample contained dexamethasone, a corticosteroid used in horses as an anti-inflammatory. The race was awarded to Penny Jar, trained by Pat Downey.

Donnchadh Doyle was not fined over the presence of testosterone in the sample taken from the filly Kamille Au Kanada in a mares’ maiden at Stowlin point-to-point on May 4th, 2025. During the IHRB investigation, a granulosa cell tumour was found on the mare’s left ovary. When that was removed the filly’s testosterone level returned to normal.

Kamille Au Kanada missed a sales engagement at Doncaster last May due to the investigation and last November she won a winners of two easily at Tinahely.

Illness claims champion filly

MAYBE, a champion European juvenile filly and dam of classic winner Saxon Warrior has died following a sudden illness, aged 17. Coolmore manager James Mockridge reported: “She was the loveliest, sweetest mare and will be greatly missed by all of those who took such great care of her during her time here. A daughter of Galileo bred on the same cross as Frankel, Maybe was purchased for €340,000 as a yearling at the 2010 Arqana August Sale from the Croom House draft.

In an unbeaten juvenile campaign, she supplemented her Chesham Stakes success at Royal Ascot with a victory in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes.

One of only three mares chosen by Coolmore on their first foray into breeding mares to Japanese sire sensation Deep Impact in 2013, her first foal was the blacktype performer Pavlenko and her second was the classic winner and sire Saxon Warrior.

Maybe’s current two-year-old colt by Dubawi is in training in Ballydoyle, a yearling colt by the same sire has been retained and she was rested during the 2025 breeding season. Maybe comes from the distinguished Swettenham Stud family responsible for recent St Leger winner Continuous, Oaks winner Dancing Rain, and Epsom Derby hero Dr Devious.
