DUNDALK Stadium will stage a replacement meeting next Tuesday evening, following the cancellation of last Friday’s fixture due to high winds.
THE Old Road Stud in Tallow, Co Waterford has reported the death of National Hunt stallion Arctic Cosmos.
Aged 18, Arctic Cosmos won the St Leger in 2010 for trainer John Gosden. He joined The Old Road Stud in 2013 and his principal winners included Apple Away, Captain Cody, Blizzard Of Oz, Mozzies Sister and Derryhassen Paddy.
James and Marian Hannon posted on social media: “He was a big horse with huge character. We are glad to have had him for so many good years. We’d like to thank all of the breeders who have supported Arctic Cosmos over the years and to wish all those with young stock the very best of luck.”
LAST year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Sierra Leone will stand at Coolmore America’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky next year following his final start in the Breeders’ Cup Classic next month.
A son of Gun Runner, Sierra Leone was a $2.3 million yearling. He is trained by Chad Brown who has described the multiple Grade 1 winner as “unequivocally the best horse I’ve had my hands on”.
Dermot Ryan of Ashford Stud said: “His dam won the Grade 1 Alcibiades Stakes at two and he is from an exceptional line of producers, with his first three dams all being Grade 1 fillies.”
Sierra Leone’s stud fee for 2026 will be announced in due course.
