CIARON Maher, trainer of last year’s BMW Caulfield Cup winner Jameka, has been suspended for six months and fined $75,000 over the ownership bona fides of five of his horses, including the Group 1 winner Azkadellia, which stewards allege were owned by convicted conman Peter Foster and not Maher’s former racing manager Ben Connolly who was listed as the horses’ owner.
On Monday the 36-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of conduct prejudicial to racing’s image and was given a week to make arrangements for the training of several hundred horses under his care.
