Galway festival starts on the July 30th and runs until August 5th and I really hope you’ve the outfit organised at this late stage. If you survived Oxygen back in the day you'll be grand with this. We decided to put together some survival tips for the week. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a newbie, these will come in handy.
You won’t have every winner
Let’s be honest here, it’s not The Wolf of Wall Street you're in. You won’t back EVERY winner on EVERY day of the festival. Accept it. Have a bit of fun, pick your battles wisely. Don't be the fool that blows all their money on the first race.
Waterproof your look
Galway isn’t always sunshine. Nobody likes runny tan or the mascara streaming down your face look. No harm in throwing an umbrella into the bag.
Have a decent breakfast
I know this is a solid piece of “mammy” advice but, be sure and have a decent breakfast. You’ll be thankful after racing when you’re heading into the Hole In The Wall to belt out some Tina Turner.
Organise your transport
Galway is a busy spot race week – avoid the fuss get organised!
How’re you getting there and back? Organise it before you head out to Ballybrit and then go and enjoy your day.

Remember where you’re staying
I know it sounds like a silly thing to have on the list. At half four jumping into a taxi after a decent Supermacs on Eyre Square, you’ll thank me. Stick the address of where you’re staying into your wallet on a piece of paper or in your phone just to be sure you get home safely.

Pack the Essentials
Ladies, don’t be afraid to give up on the killer heels – bring flats. It’s more of a health and safety thing than anything else.
Deodorant is an obvious necessity in a handbag. But, ladies don’t forget the dry shampoo and plasters for the feet. If you’ve ignored the “organise your transport in advance” point you’ll appreciate the plasters tip!

Bring cash!
You could waste half your time at the races waiting to use the ATM. Just bring cash with you – don’t be the one that misses the Galway Plate because they were queuing for the ATM.
