A chance is taken on Zarkareva. She is quite a useful sort at her best and is easily forgiven a below-par effort on her most recent start at Leopardstown over Christmas having previously run to a good level in handicap chases at Galway and Listowel. She has the capacity to win a race like this.

Embittered struggled somewhat in quality novice chases during the winter but his seventh in the Grand Annual two months ago, where he was beaten less than 20 lengths, was a respectable effort and he will find this much easier.

Battleoverdoyen chased home Envoi Allen in a Grade 1 over this trip at Christmas and ran a respectable third in this race last year off a slightly higher mark. His jumping has been an issue lately but he has the capacity to run well.

SELECTION: ZARKAREVA

I’ll Be That Lady can follow up a recent success at Tipperary where she was a comfortable winner over Jack Holiday. That effort, for which she was raised 10lb, followed a brave second at Fairyhouse where she was beaten a half-length by Echoes Of Family on her first run for 14 months. She is 11lb worse off with Echoes Of Family now but looked a mare on the up when scoring at Tipperary.

Union Park is interesting. He shaped better than the final result when beaten just over 11 lengths into fourth by Bonarc in a handicap hurdle at Tipperary and is making his handicap chase debut. His last run over fences in a Cork beginners’ chase yielded a respectable sixth behind Grand Paradis. Echoes Of Family should once again play a leading role.

The 127-rated Heia looks to have solid credentials. A Fairyhouse maiden winner in February, she was placed in a Grade A handicap hurdle won by Glan at Easter and she lines up off a one-length second to Anna Bunina in a listed mares’ hurdle at Killarney a fortnight ago. She is a useful type and can make her experience count against Naughtinesse who is a dangerous rival. The latter won a Fairyhouse bumper in January and started off over hurdles with a smooth win in a maiden hurdle at Tipperary at the start of the month. She should make up into a smart novice in this division.

SELECTION: HEIA

Soviet Pimpernel has a good opportunity to add to his tally over timber. Formerly a Grade 3 winner over hurdles as a four-year-old, he switched back to hurdles for the first time in over two years when finishing third to Shewearsitwell in a conditions hurdle at Killarney recently.

That run leaves him with just over two lengths to find with Off You Go but he is put forward in the expectation that he will find the requisite improvement to turn the tables on that rival. Both Soviet Pimpernel and Off You Go look nicely treated by the race conditions and they look the two to focus on.

SELECTION: SOVIET PIMPERNEL

This should see Tax For Max get off the mark over hurdles. This free-going sort lines up with a rating of 134 and has plenty of decent form to his name. He comes here off a good run in a Grade B handicap hurdle at Festival here last month when he was beaten less than one length into third by Felix Desjy. This doesn’t look anything like as good a race and he should be hard to beat.

Flaming Moon was disappointing at Clonmel earlier this month but he had previously been placed in maiden hurdles on his first three runs over hurdles and achieved a rating of 122.

A return to form could see him give the favourite most to do. Read To Return is interesting off a good bumper run here last month while Folio is a notable newcomer from a top yard.

Ballybough Native is worth another chance after a somewhat disappointing debut over hurdles last month where he finished eighth behind Whatsavailable over two and a half miles at Fairyhouse. A winner of a point-to-point bumper 14 months ago, he was entitled to need that Fairyhouse run and he did shape as though he might benefit from coming back in distance.

He gets the vote over the experienced 113-rated Showbusiness who should again be thereabouts if reproducing his Down Royal run at the start of the month where he was a close third in a maiden hurdle where Gaelic Arc defeated Flaming Moon. Luke Short is not without a chance and nor is Reserve Judgement who won a point-to-point at Tipperary just over a year ago and makes his track debut now as a six-year-old for John McConnell and owner Derek Kierans.

SELECTION: BALLYBOUGH NATIVE

This could see Hisnameis Mrdevitt add this race to his two victories on the flat. He has run to an encouraging level on his five outings over timber so far and lines up off a most encouraging display in an ultra competitive handicap hurdle here last month where he finished well to be beaten six lengths into fifth by Broomfield Hall. A repeat performance could be sufficient to lift this prize.

The veteran Goulane Chosen is a capable type at this level. He was well held at Wexford on his recent outing almost three months ago but he has previously put together a series of decent efforts in reasonable handicap hurdles at this distance. If he runs to his best he will be hard to keep out of the frame. Hearts Are Trumps could be very dangerous at this level having campaigned in high class handicap hurdles for the last few seasons.

SELECTION: HISNAMEIS MRDEVITT

Halibut can land an intriguing race which has previously been won by the likes of Faugheen and City Island. He was a big eyecatcher on his debut here last month when he was beaten less than two lengths into third by Path D’oroux in a race confined to unraced horses.

The manner in which he travelled through that race suggested he is potentially a very smart sort and he can make his racecourse experience count against Demandrivingdouvan who looks an exciting recruit from the point-to-points following his impressive victory at Borris House just under three months ago.

Spread Boss Ted is another fascinating runner. He fell on his sole point-to-point outing over a year ago but was in the process of running creditably in a race where the useful Anyharminasking defeated Constitution Hill.

SELECTION: HALIBUT
