THE Golden Vale Branch of the Irish Pony Club held a Fun Minimus last Sunday when there was an 8am start to the swimming phase in Thurles Leisure Centre with the action then moving to Crossogue Equestrian for the run and cross-country phases.

With sponsorship from Boomerang Horse and Country Store, the event attracted an entry of just over 100 young IPC members from Branches all around the country.

Full points

The overall winner was Scarteen’s Jonty Purcell who was first in the boys’ swim, second in their run and was clear across the country. Six boys earned the full 1,400 points in the cross-country phase with nine girls doing likewise.

Attention now turns to the IPC’s National Minimus Championships which take place next Saturday and Sunday, June 18th and 19th, when the riding phase will take place on day one at Nuenna Farm. On Sunday, the swim will be held at Thurles Leisure Centre before the final phase, the run, will be staged at Thurles racecourse.
