LAST Thursday week, following the evening’s National Hunt meeting at Tipperary racecourse, a dozen members of the Scarteen Hunt Branch of the Irish Pony Club took part in two flat races at the track.

The first over two furlongs saw seven ponies race up the straight led home by Michael Dunne on the 22-year-old Woodvale Kings Royal gelding Kilcreene Onyx. This race was sponsored by Robin Harold Barry, of RHB Trailers Sales and Services, whose daughter Amelia won the Denis Quinlan Husqvarna Automowers Sales and Services five-runner, four-furlong race for older riders on board the seven-year-old dun mare (Ballinkingsland) Zara.
