PAUL Townend has been a racing personality since he was a teenager, but he’s definitely a media celebrity now, having featured in the latest edition of The Gloss, the fashion supplement insideThe Irish Times.

The champion jockey answered the usual questions on his career and injuries before talking a bit about his personal style.

Wearing “a nice watch” is his calling card, and he admits he is a bit too fond of buying clothes online.

We were pleasantly surprised to see Paul has a skincare routine. He told The Gloss: “I wear SPF (sunscreen), The Ordinary vitamin C, salicylic acid and a moisturiser.”

We guess a champ needs to look good in all those winner’s enclosure photos.

Earlier this week Amanda Torrens of Barberstown Castle popped up in the business pages of The Irish Times, answering questions about her money management.

In these questionnaires, successful business figures will typically talk about how they plunged their life savings and borrowings into their risky business idea, but when then are asked ‘Are you a gambler?’ the standard reply is ‘God, no! I am far too cautious to ever place a bet’.

So how refreshing it was to see Amanda tell readers: “I love the odd flutter! Years ago I bought a racehorse and in her first race I got the price of the horse back in a bet. She was 40/1.”

Amanda also mentioned she recently bought a racehorse from France, which will be running on the flat this year. Watch out for Amanda in the betting ring.
