NICK Rockett gave the reputation of the Goffs Thyestes Chase a great boost last year when he added the Grand National to his Gowran win.
The gelding was the guest of honour at a recent press launch for the Thyestes, which takes place next Thursday. Also in attendance were a group of valued sponsors from Gowran Park, and local TD Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere.
Speaking at the launch, racecourse manager Eddie Scally said: “The Goffs Thyestes Chase continues to be a cornerstone of our racing season and a race that regularly produces horses capable of going on to achieve greatness on the biggest stages. To launch the 2026 renewal at Closutton, and to welcome our sponsors, directors and guests while celebrating Nick Rockett’s incredible achievements, made for a fantastic morning.”
Goffs CEO Henry Beeby added: “Goffs Thyestes Chase Day is a true highlight of the Irish National Hunt season and is a race and an occasion with which we are proud to be associated. Nick Rockett was a wonderful winner last year, and to see him go on to Grand National glory at Aintree is testament to the quality of the Goffs Thyestes - a race that has been won by so many greats throughout the years, including Arkle.”
