LIMERICK trainer Eoin McCarthy rightly got all the attention at Listowel last week following six winners for the yard, but it didn’t go unnoticed that another Limerick trainer, Mike Flannery from Askeaton, had his first winner on the Monday of the Festival.
Bought out of George Boughey’s Newmarket yard, Ehteyat won a 14-furlong handicap at Listowel by over eight lengths in the trainer’s colours. There’s no moles in the Flannery yard, judging by the starting price of 33/1. Mike is looking forward to going hurdling with Ehteyat through the winter.
“I have about six in training at the moment, with a few point-to-pointers about to come in,” Mike told us. “I left it late in life to take out a licence but I have always been involved in syndicates, including some with Josh Sheahan’s Top of the Town group. They are also from Askeaton.”
Mike plans to buy a couple of new recruits at the upcoming horses-in-training sales and would welcome enquiries on 087 7472765 from anyone interested in taking a small share.
