THE Curragh Racecourse is inviting all GAA clubs in Co Kildare to compete for a €10,000 prize pot in a new fundraising partnership enabling hurling, gaelic football and camogie teams the chance to raise funds for their clubs in a fun way and at no cost to themselves.

This initiative will take place on Saturday, March 25th when the 2023 flat racing season gets underway at the track.

The fundraiser will be linked to the feature race of the day and to date 15 teams from around the county have signed up to take part. There is still the chance for clubs to get involved as there are 15 places remaining.

The Curragh’s racing and sponsorship manager Evan Arkwright said: “One of our main priorities this year is to proactively engage and connect with local communities around the county and what better way to kick off our 2023 season then to partner with the Gaelic games community in Co Kildare.

“We’re sponsoring a prize fund of €10,000 which will be linked to the feature race on our opening day where each team that enters with us will be matched with a horse running in the race.

“The horses that finish in the first three places will then earn prize money for their partner team which can then used to towards their fundraising needs. We hope that club members will come racing to support their horse and enjoy a fun family friendly raceday.”

The team drawn with the winner of the big race will win €7,000 while the horse in second place will win its associated club €2,000 and third place will win €1,000 for its club. Clubs taking place will have additional fund-raising opportunities linked to the raceday.

Any clubs that would like to be involved or have any queries are asked to contact Brian Purcell by next Friday, February 17th.
