FORMER amateur rider Aubrey McMahon has launched a new racing ownership project which already has two horses in training with Willie Mullins. Temple Bloodstock is the name of Aubrey’s operation and it promises to bring plenty of new blood into the game.

To get started, Aubrey has sourced two French winners, named Goldoni and Tounsivator. One is already fully subscribed and the other is more than half-sold.

“The idea behind Temple Bloodstock is to source quality horses,” Aubrey told us. “The two horses sourced so far are French winners with a nice rating and are going to Willie Mullins.

“I think 10 million people watched the Gold Cup on ITV last year so my thinking is that there a lot of people out there interested in the higher end of the game. They might like to be involved but feel like they can’t compete on the same stage as the big owners.

“I felt there was a gap in the market potentially here. Personally, I would want to get involved at the higher end of ownership if I was looking in from the outside.”

Aubrey hopes his nine years of experience in racing and many contacts in the sport will help him to open doors for people who would like to take an interest in a racehorse. Aubrey’s father Luke has, of course, had huge success with French imports such as Cilaos Emery and Bleu Berry, not forgetting flat recruit Whiskey Sour.

If syndicate membership does not appeal, Aubrey is happy to act on behalf of smaller groups or even individuals who are looking for a steer on racehorse ownership.

As a rider Aubrey punched well above his weight, winning the big amateur handicap at Galway twice aboard Uradel and Whiskey Sour. Hopefully he can retain his magic touch in this new venture.
