THE trophy won by Levmoss in the 1969 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe was sold for £12,000 this week.

Levmoss was trained by Seamus McGrath in Glencairn, near Leopardstown and was a 52/1 winner of the Arc, a race in which the Lester Piggott-ridden Park Top was an arguably unlucky second.

Dublin auctioneer John Weldon handled the sale of the trophy, which exceeded its guide price of €8,000-€12,000.

Levmoss was just the second Irish-trained horse to win the Arc. The four-year-old colt had already won the Ascot Gold Cup and Prix du Cadran.

The Arc trophy, which bears the mark of Parisian maker Émile Puiforcat, weighs about 5kg, the majority of which is silver with gold gilding.
