ANDY Slattery has won €5,000 worth of Gain Equine Nutrition products as the top trainer in the Gain The Advantage Series for 2023. The series consists of nine lower grade handicaps run between April and October, all of which had 50% extra prize money this year.

Points are awarded to trainers who saddle placed horses in these races and the grading system used is designed to give all trainers, big and small, an equal chance of winning the top prize.

Andy clinched the series by saddling Rock Etoile to be fourth in the Leopardstown leg last Sunday which was won by Yuzu. He said: “Rock Etoile finished second in an earlier leg of the series at Killarney and I specifically aimed him at the Leopardstown race. I knew I was in with a chance of winning the competition when Dark Note won in Tramore. That race was restricted to horses owned by syndicates, which was another great idea. I was delighted to win the series and the extra prize money this year was appreciated by the owners too.”

The series also recognised the hard-working stable staff, with a draw for one lucky groom to win a luxury weekend at the Lyrath Hotel. That was won by Melissa O’Neill from the Eoghan O’Neill stable.

The breeder of the winning horse from each race also received a framed photograph of the horse they bred, and their names were entered into a draw to win one tonne of Gain Equine Nutrition products. That draw was won by Randolf Stevens Ltd, breeders of the Henry de Bromhead-trained Matt Connor.
