GORDON Power, the outstanding breeze-up rider and former jockey, is about to make a return to the track.
‘Flash’, as he is universally known, has agreed to ride in a charity race at Chepstow on Thursday, August 14th in aid of Autism in Racing.
“I am really looking forward to getting back in the saddle on a raceday,” he said. “I have a nephew with autism and I just think what Autism In Racing is doing is brilliant. It’s great how people are getting involved and helping support autistic families. I can’t wait to take part and hopefully raise lots of money for a great cause.”
Gordon began his career in racing in 1994 and was a leading apprentice with the Jim Bolger stable before an accident forced him to retire in 2002. He rode over 100 winners and also spent winters in Dubai with top trainers there. He continued to work with Jim Bolger for a total of 24 years. During that time, his reputation as a talented rider grew and his services are in huge demand on the breeze-up circuit to this day. Group 1 winners Vandeek and Bradsell are among the horses he has been entrusted with at recent breeze-up sales.
Jim Bolger commented: “Gordon was an exceptional apprentice and I have no doubt he would have been a champion jockey if he hadn’t had his accident. We wish him all the best and send our support for his appearance on the raceday.”
