IT was Co Westmeath native Thomas Geoghegan who stole the show as he rode his first double aboard horses that he owned and trained too for good measure, as the season-opening fixture at Oldcastle marked the welcome return of spectators.

Geoghegan kickstarted his double in the winner-of-one contest with Subset (6/1 to 8/1), who was recording his first success since his maiden victory at Loughrea in October of last year. Subset was given a patient ride by Geoghegan but he looked booked for second spot with the strong-travelling Beyond Redemption and Georgie Benson holding a sizeable advantage heading to the final fence.
