IRELAND’S Abigail Lyle and the 11-year-old KWPN gelding Giraldo scored an international personal best of 70.395% for seventh place in the Horse and Hound FEI World Cup Short Grand Prix class at the London International Horse Show on Thursday.

It was an impressive World Cup debut for the Irish world championship team rider from Co Down and her Rosseau gelding Giraldo. An emotional Lyle and her trainer Carl Hester embraced after her personal best international score was announced.

Speaking after her test, the British-based rider said: “I was delighted with the Grand Prix today. Giraldo was really with me during the test. Many thanks to all the spectators here for their applause and support.” They were due to make their international Freestyle debut on Friday.

Champion

Reigning world champion Charlotte Fry and Glamourdale produced a wonderful flowing test to delight the home support and win the class on a personal best of 84.026%. “It was amazing.” said Lottie. “I hope everyone here enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed it.”

Britain’s Herning world team silver medallist Gareth Hughes and Classic Briolinca completed in second place on a 78.263% total. The legendary dual eventing and dressage world medallist Ingrid Kilmke scored 75.421% with Franziskus FRH to claim the final podium placing for Germany.

There are five Irish riders competing in the five-star show jumping classes at the venue. They are Conor Swail, Denis Lynch, Richard Howley, Trevor Breen and Commdt. Geoff Curran.
