THE Irish-bred and Irish-produced LVS Vigo’s €1 million sale at last weekend’s PSI Auction is “a great boost” to everyone involved, said Aoife McCabe who produced the seven-year-old until earlier this year.

Bred by Anne Marie O’Gorman at Lissava Stud in Tipperary, Galway-based McCabe bought the ISH Vancouver gelding from O’Gorman as a two-year-old. “I broke him here and did everything with him. Because of Covid, we really took our time with him. As a five-year-old he hardly jumped anything. This year we went to the Sunshine Tour and I only got to jump him the first week before someone had spotted him. German rider Laura Klaphake and Paul Schockemöhle bought him at the Sunshine Tour,” McCabe told The Irish Field.

“It’s just great to see a horse reach his full potential, and hopefully he will do that. That kind of money is phenomenal, and to think he was in our yard this year. He was so trainable, he always had a great canter and anytime I brought him out, I always had someone asking about him.

“I would have liked to have kept him, but I would have then had to go abroad and committed to jumping over big tracks and I just didn’t have a team of horses to do that,” she added.

O’Gorman said she was “very proud” to have bred the €1 million gelding who is out of the Carthago mare Cutting Edge who she is still breeding from. “Thankfully I have his sister and his dam here to continue the line.” LVS Vigo is the oldest of six progeny registered to the mare on the Irish Horse Register.

Record sale

While the buyer’s name was not released, it is believed the gelding was sold to Germany. Meanwhile, there was a record set at the sale when Paul Schockemöhle’s six-year-old Casallco mare Chyazint was sold for €4 million, the highest price ever attained by a horse in PSI history.

The sale is founded by Schockemöhle who commented: “This is an unbelievable result. Chyazint is an absolute super talent, one of the best horses we have seen in all these years. Under the expert guidance of Swedish rider Ebba Johansson, she has developed into a truly absolutely exceptional jumper.”
