KEVIN Gallagher’s Nations Cup mount Ballypatrick Flamenco has been sold. The 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding was the Irish National Champion in 2021 and carried Gallagher to his Nations Cup debut and first team win.

Bred in Co Kildare by Dr Noel Cawley, the gelding is by Je T’Aime Flamenco out of Cruise Leaf (Cruising). Ballypatrick Flamenco joined Greg Broderick’s Ballypatrick Stables as a three-year-old. He won the prestigious Irish Breeders’ Classic under Darragh Ryan in 2016. Broderick himself later produced the gelding at international level before Gallagher took over in 2019. The pair won the 1.50m Premier Series in 2021 and 2020 saw them win their first international Grand Prix in Valencia, Spain.

Their senior Nations Cup debut came in Lisbon in May 2022 where they helped the team to victory.

“Best of luck to Ballypatrick Flamenco on his travels,” wrote Broderick in a social media post. “Nice memories to have him from a three-year-old old all the way through his career to 1.60m level. Himself and Kevin Gallagher were a great partnership. Big thanks to Lisa Bushaway who looked after him so well.” The new owners were not revealed to The Irish Field.

Springfield 21 sold

Another team Ireland horse who has been sold is Thomas Ryan’s talented 10-year-old stallion Springfield 21. The H3K Equestrian AB-owned Stakkato Gold entire joined Ryan’s string in early 2020 and the Sweden-based international show jumper produced him up to five-star level.

The stallion made his Irish team debut in the three-star Nations Cup of Bratislava last May where they were double clear before appearing on a number of teams throughout the year. The then nine-year-old stepped up to five-star level with ease at the back end of the year and finished fourth in the World Cup at Helsinki.

Also changing hands in recent months was Shane Breen’s exciting 10-year-old stallion Vistogrand, now ridden by Denis Lynch for new owners Parco Sport Horses EST, while Bertram Allen’s nine-year-old five-star Grand Prix-winning mount Empoli de Champloue has been sold to Tipperary-based Coolmore Showjumping.
